Building a data management platform
Business objective
National Company KazMunayGas JSC felt the need to improve the quality and efficiency of management decisions and to organize a single version of the truth.
NC KazMunayGas JSC is the leading vertically integrated oil and gas company in Kazakhstan. KMG manages assets across the entire production cycle from exploration and production of hydrocarbons to transportation, refining and provision of services.
The company felt the need to improve the quality and efficiency of management decisions at the level of top and middle management. It was also necessary to organize a single version of the truth in all areas of the Holding’s activities. The complexity of the project was in the specifics of the company itself which covers various business areas and completes orders for clients both within the country and abroad.
Solution
Arenadata DB, Informatica Power Center, Informatica Product 360, Informatica MDM Multidomain Hub, Informatica Axon Data Governance and Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog were the solutions used in project implementation.
The basis of the software and hardware system was a heterogeneous data warehouse on the basis of the Arenadata DB DBMS. It is integrated with various corporate information systems and other data sources using the Informatica Power Center ETL solutions.
Data quality checks, as well as data profiling and enrichment are performed using the Informatica Data Quality.
The regulatory and reference information is managed in terms of Goods/Works/Services, as well as business partners/counterparties, on the basis of the Informatica Product 360 and Informatica MDM Multidomain Hub solution. A large number of specialists from different regions were involved in the work on normalization and centralization of directories.
All business indicators implemented in the warehouse are described in the Informatica Axon Data Governance system which determines the origin of data (data lineage) from various information sources, using the Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC) toolkits.
Result
The platform covers various business areas and operating units of the company. This is one of the largest data management projects throughout the EAEU.
The new platform will enable to:

- Provide decision makers with the most accurate and up-to-date information and analytics at any time.
- Accelerate strategic decision-making and improve the quality of decisions.
